Somebody's Prayin'

Right now, United Methodists from all over the world are decending upon Fort Worth Texas for the 2008 General Conference. The theme for the conference is: A Future with Hope.

Simultaneously, millions of UMers are on their knees praying for God to drown the conference in His Spirit. Many liberal issues will be taken up for discussion and possible application by the church. All of them are antithetical to the will of God!

So it is with me...I am resolved that God's will, not the will of mortal man, rules my life. As Charles Wesley wrote...

I want a principle within of watchful, godly fear,A sensibility of sin, a pain to feel it near.I want the first approach to feel of pride or wrong desire,To catch the wandering of my will, and quench the kindling fire.
From Thee that I no more may stray, no more Thy goodness grieve,Grant me the filial awe, I pray, the tender conscience give.Quick as the apple of an eye, O God, my conscience make;Awake my soul when sin is nigh, and keep it still awake.
Almighty God of truth and love, to me Thy power impart; The mountain from my soul remove, the hardness from my heart.O may the least omission pain my reawakened soul,And drive me to that blood again, which makes the wounded whole.

This is my prayer...in earnest...for the men and women meeting just now! May God grant them the wisdom to make decisive choices and leave no room for ambiguity...in whatever form that takes!
